The records include correspondence, memoranda, reports, published materials, committee minutes, financial records, building specifications, construction contracts and accreditation materials. Although the collection ranges from 1885-1990, the bulk of the collection concerns administration of Arizona State College and Arizona State University from 1950-1980. The collection is divided into 60 series reflecting the organizational structure of the university as enunciated in the University Archives classification system.

In 1938, Arizona State College reached an agreement with the state's four hospital schools to accept 16 semester hours of credit toward degree requirements for work completed at these schools by students who went on to earn the Registered Nurse's Certificate. Arizona State University's College of Law was founded in 1967 with Willard H. Pedrick as its founding Dean. A new 82,000 square foot building was constructed at Orange and McAllister Streets in Tempe to house the College, which took possession in early 1968.
